David Eddy

New Work

14 September through 27 October 2001

Artist reception: 14 September 7-9 PM

David Eddy is a self-taught painter who is firmly grounded in the mainstream of contemporary art. His semi-abstract figurative compositions are full of raw energy and emotion with a naïve sophistication The New York Times described as “notably reminiscent of Paul Klee.” A roofing contractor for 25 years, Mr. Eddy’s art career began only 6 years ago at the age of 46, when a well-known Los Angeles artist saw some crayon and chalk drawings of his. He encouraged David to try painting, and supplied him with materials. This year alone, Mr. Eddy has solo exhibitions in Kent, CT, Provincetown, MA, New York City, Hudson, NY and Poughkeepsie, NY, as well as in Los Angeles. “My painting was a gift,” says Eddy. “A result of circumstance I could never have predicted or dreamed. I have embraced it with all the passion and energy that I own. I now know what I want to be when I grow up.”
