With great anticipation Jan Baum Gallery and LA’s painting enthusiasts await the new work of well-known and respected painter Michael Dvortcsak. His dynamic compositions, rich palette, and intriguing subject matter are provocative and exciting to every viewer. In this upcoming exhibition of recent oil paintings, Michael extends his exploration into the mystical symbolism of traditional subject matter by imbuing it with a latent power and radiant energy. This he accomplishes by the use of vitreous glazes over a wide range of heavily textured surfaces. In the landscapes now peopled with sacred stones, in the highly symbolic vessel/goddess images and in the mythic portraits, attention to the specific qualities of surface and mood characterize these engaging and often enigmatic oils. Light remains Dvortcsak's most influential and equivocal component; its source and its mysterious influence charge this work with a decidedly spiritual overtone.
