4 November through 21 December 2005

Reception: Friday 4 November 7-9 pm

The Jan Baum Gallery is pleased to present the exhibition of “New Paintings” by Selma Moskowitz, 4 November through 21 December 2005. The paintings, on wood or linen, are composed of thin acrylic paint alternately layered and sanded. The colored surfaces are luminous, transparent, and hard to define. What appears to be blue may shift to orange as one changes ones physical relationship to the painting. Issues of color perception, process and space created by visual elements are paramount in this work. A “quick read” is not possible. To quote John Cage – the purpose of art is: “to sober and quiet the mind, encourage a state that is spiritual in nature but at the same time is connected to every day life.”
